Prestigious Palmetto Pig Pick'n

About the Event

The Palmetto BBQ & Brew Festival is one of the most popular barbecue competitions in the Southeast.  Coordinated by the Olde Charlestowne Sertoma Club (link to site), the 2009 event is scheduled for March 20 and 21 and marks the event’s silver anniversary.

Over the past 25 years, the event has evolved into the premiere BBQ competition in the area.  In 1984, the event hosted 24 cooking teams.  In 2008, more than 75 teams participated from all over the southeast and as far away as Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Illinois.

The 2009 Palmetto BBQ & Brew Festival will be held on the Banks of the Edisto River at Prospect Hill Plantation.  The event is part of the Edisto Island Museum hosting the Smithsonian Institution’s exhibit “Key Ingredients, America by Food”.

The Palmetto BBQ & Brew Festival is a charity fundraiser with proceeds being donated to various non-profit organizations.  Since its inception, the event has donated more than $1 million to charity.

The event is sponsored by Publix (link to site).
